Chapter 10 - The Master Suite

The private terrace of the penthouse suite at the Hotel Beau-Rivage in Zurich overlooked Lake Geneva, its crystal-clear waters shimmering under a canopy of brilliant late-spring stars.
I stood at the polished wrought-iron railing, wearing a tailored midnight-blue silk evening gown that caught the soft amber glow of the terrace lanterns, holding a glass of crisp vintage champagne.
The air was cool, crisp, and smelled faintly of blooming alpine flowers and clean water—a million miles away from the damp, frantic concrete of the Halcyon Cliffs spa wing.
My phone buzzed gently on the glass table behind me.
I turned, walked over, and picked it up. A simple text message from Chloe back at the corporate office: *All Q2 manifests cleared, regional audit signed off, and the Tokyo cargo ship has docked safely on schedule. Have a wonderful conference, Claire. You earned this.*
I smiled, typing back a quick, appreciative reply.
There was no frantic buzzing from lawyers. No screaming relatives pounding on locked doors. No forged signatures, no stolen bags, and no hidden syringes waiting in the dark.
For the first time in my life, the master suite wasn't something I had to fight for, defend, or justify to people who only loved me for what I could provide. It was simply mine—earned through grit, intelligence, unbreakable boundaries, and the refusal to ever let anyone else hold the key to my future.
I walked back to the edge of the terrace, raised my champagne glass toward the vast, glittering expanse of the Swiss night sky, and whispered softly to the wind:
May you like
"Cheers to the master key."
Then I took a long, slow sip, turned around, and walked back inside into the warmth and light of my own unshakeable kingdom.
