Chapter 10 - The True Celebration

That evening, the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of lavender, gold, and soft pink—the exact colors of the unicorn cake that had started it all.

Sophie and I were sitting on the living room floor surrounded by unpacked moving boxes, eating slices of pepperoni pizza off paper plates. There were no streamers hanging from the ceiling yet, and the walls were still mostly bare, but the apartment—no, our home—was filled with the sound of laughter that didn't need to be filtered or calculated.

“Mom?” Sophie asked around a bite of crust, her eyes shining in the warm lamplight.

“Yes, sweetie?”

“Can we bake another unicorn cake this weekend? A really big one?”

I smiled, reaching out to brush a stray strand of hair behind her ear, feeling the absolute lightness of a future built on truth rather than pretense.

“We can bake as many unicorn cakes as we want,” I told her, raising my paper plate in a quiet toast to the empty room, the sunlight, and the bright, unwritten road ahead. “As many as we want.”
