Chapter 20 - THE HAPPY ENDING

Later that evening, after dinner was finished and the dishes were washed and put away, I stood out on the front porch of the Brookline home, breathing in the crisp, clean winter air.

The stars shone brightly overhead, cutting through the frosty Boston sky like scattered diamonds.

The past two years had been a masterclass in resilience, corporate restructuring, and emotional awakening. I had walked into a trap on Christmas Eve two years ago, armed with nothing more than my wits and a rented Honda, and emerged not just as the founder of a multi-billion-dollar empire, but as the architect of my own destiny.

The front door opened softly behind me, and Stella stepped out onto the porch, wrapping a knitted scarf around her neck. She walked over, leaning her elbows against the wooden railing beside me, looking out at the quiet, snow-covered street.

“Cold out here,” Stella murmured, blowing a plume of frosty breath into the air.

“Refreshing,” I corrected with a smile.

Stella nodded slowly, turning her head to look at me. “You know, Gwen... I never really thanked you properly for not destroying us when you had the absolute right to do so.”

“I didn't save you, Stella,” I said gently, looking out at the horizon. “You saved yourself when you decided to stop living a lie.”

Stella smiled—a genuine, warm, unpretentious smile that reached her eyes. “Yeah. Turns out real life is a lot better down here on the ground.”

“It really is,” I agreed.

I reached out, wrapping my arm around my sister’s shoulders as we stood together under the winter stars, watching the world turn toward a bright, unclouded tomorrow.

And for the first time in our lives, we were both exactly where we were supposed to be.
