Chapter 20 - Happily Ever After

Ten years later, the autumn leaves were falling over Central Park once again, painting the Manhattan landscape in brilliant shades of amber, gold, and crimson.
I stood on the private terrace of my penthouse overlooking the park, holding a cup of artisan tea while watching the sun dip below the jagged silhouette of the West Side skyline.
Kensington Global was now the undisputed titan of global technology and sustainable finance, operating across forty countries with a workforce of over a hundred thousand dedicated professionals. My mother, Margo, had officially transitioned into a well-deserved retirement, passing the entirety of the Chairwoman’s mantle into my hands three years prior. I ran the empire not with the defensive armor of someone afraid of losing it all, but with the quiet, creative joy of someone who loved building things that mattered.
The heavy glass doors of the terrace slid open softly.
Footsteps approached—familiar, steady, and entirely unhurried. Strong arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind, resting comfortably over my shoulders as a warm chin came to rest gently against my neck.
Marcus smiled down at me, his eyes crinkling at the corners with the quiet warmth of a decade shared in absolute partnership, mutual respect, and unconditional love.
"You've been out here staring at the park for twenty minutes," Marcus murmured, kissing my temple. "Everything alright, Madame Chairwoman?"
I reached up, placing my hand over his, letting the emerald ring on my left finger catch the last golden rays of the autumn sunset.
"Everything is more than alright, Marcus," I whispered, leaning back into his embrace. "Everything is exactly where it's supposed to be."
He smiled, turning me gently in his arms so we were facing each other, looking out together over the breathtaking expanse of the city we had built our lives in.
We didn't need to look back at the past. We didn't need to remember the ghosts of a broken gala or the cold marble floor of a forgotten hotel ballroom. Those were just chapters in a book that had long since found its true, unshakeable ending.

We had our empire. We had our family. And most importantly, we had each other.
And as the city lights flickered on one by one beneath the twilight sky, I knew with absolute certainty that this story—our story—would never end.
