Chapter 14 - The Celebration Dinner

That evening, Apex Digital Media hosted a celebratory dinner at an upscale rooftop restaurant overlooking the glittering lights of West Hollywood.

The table was set with heavy crystal glassware, polished silver cutlery, and delicate white porcelain plates. A chilled bottle of vintage champagne sat cooling in a silver bucket beside our table. As the waiter poured the sparkling golden liquid into our flutes, Sarah raised her glass toward me.

"To Leo Vance—the man who turned a family headache into a hit franchise," she toasted, her eyes sparkling with professional admiration. "May your boundaries remain unbreakable and your invoices always get paid."

"To boundaries," I smiled, clinking my glass against hers.

As we sipped the champagne and discussed the upcoming production schedule, my phone buzzed quietly in my jacket pocket. I pulled it out discreetly under the table and glanced at the screen.

It was a text message from Chloe.

“Hey Leo! Mom told me you're out in L.A. meeting with a television studio for your book series. That is seriously insane!! I am so, so proud of you. I know I was a nightmare back then, but seeing you succeed like this... it makes me realize how much I needed that wake-up call. Hope the meetings went amazing. Let's grab dinner together when you're back home—my treat, and I promise I'll make a reservation!”

I stared at the screen for a long moment, reading the words twice.

There was no defensiveness. No manipulation. No entitlement. Just genuine, hard-won sibling pride and the sweet, undeniable fruit of behavioral accountability.

I tapped out a quick reply: “Thanks, Chloe. The meetings went great. Dinner when I’m back sounds like a plan. And don't worry—no invoices required.”

I locked the phone, slipped it back into my pocket, and turned my attention back to the dazzling Los Angeles skyline glittering beneath the stars.

The past was behind me. The future was unwritten, and this time, I held the pen.
