Chapter 7 - THE PENTHOUSE AUDITORIUM

Rain lashed against the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the eightieth floor of the Maritime Plaza Tower. Inside the opulent, black-marble boardroom, thirty of the world's most powerful shipping magnates, investment bankers, and corporate attorneys sat around a horseshoe-shaped teak table.
At the head of the table stood Bianca Vance.
She looked immaculate in a tailored white silk suit, her blonde hair pulled back into a flawless bun, a diamond necklace glittering at her throat. But beneath her heavy makeup, her eyes were bloodshot, twitching slightly every time the elevator doors chimed in the lobby down the hall.
She kept checking her encrypted phone. Arthur still hadn't called.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Bianca announced, her voice projected through the room's high-tech audio system. "Thank you for attending this extraordinary session. As you know, today marks the three-year anniversary of the unfortunate disappearance of my former sister-in-law, and the passing of my beloved father."
A murmur of polite sympathy ran through the room of executives.
"Under the terms of the Vance Family Trust," Bianca continued, raising a sleek digital tablet, "the absolute authority of the executive chairmanship reverts to me permanently at midnight tonight, provided my brother, Julian Vance, remains absent or incapable of performing his duties."
She paused, taking a slow, calculated breath.
"Regrettably, my brother suffered a severe psychological collapse earlier today. He has been placed under private medical care. Therefore, as sole surviving trustee, I am moving to immediately approve Motion 404: the complete transfer of Vance Global’s maritime fleet to the Apex Holding Consortium for the sum of four point two billion dollars."
"Point of order, Trustee Vance," an elderly director near the front raised his hand. "This transfer represents ninety percent of our core operations. Have the independent auditors verified the solvent backing of Apex?"
"The auditors have fully cleared the transaction," Bianca lied smoothly, resting her hands on the podium. "The vote is a mere formality. All those in favor—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors at the back of the auditorium exploded inward, blowing off their hinges with a deafening bang.
The board members gasped, several jumping up from their chairs in alarm. Security guards in the room reached for their sidearms, but before they could draw, a dozen federal tactical agents swarmed through the entrance, red laser sights painting the room.
"FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP YOUR WEAPONS! STAY SEATED!" shouted Special Agent Miller, his automatic rifle trained on the security detail.
The corporate guards immediately threw their hands up, letting their weapons clatter against the polished granite floor.
Bianca froze, her face draining of all color. "What is the meaning of this? This is a private corporate meeting! Get these men out of here immediately!"
Through the smoke and high-powered flashlight beams, three figures stepped into the auditorium.
First was District Attorney Eleanor Vance-Cross, holding a signed federal arrest warrant.
Second was me, Julian Vance, dressed in a sharp black suit, staring down my sister with pure contempt.
And third, walking slowly but steadily by my side, supported by my arm, was Evelyn—wearing a midnight-black dress, her gaunt face illuminated by the bright room lights, her amber eyes fixed like daggers on Bianca.
The entire boardroom went dead, echoing silent.
Bianca backed away from the podium until her lower back hit the glass window overlooking the storm-swept city below. Her breath came in ragged gasps, her hand flying to her mouth.
"No..." Bianca whispered, her voice squeaking in terror. "No... you're... you're dead... Arthur said..."
"Arthur is in a federal holding cell, Bianca," Eleanor announced loudly, her voice echoing off the acoustic ceiling. "And he has given a full, signed confession regarding the attempted murder of Evelyn, the kidnapping, and the illegal transfer of corporate funds."
"Julian..." Bianca whimpered, looking at me with wide, manic eyes. "Julian, listen to me! She's an imposter! It's a setup by competitor firms! I did everything for the family! I built this company!"
"You didn't build it," Evelyn spoke up. Her voice wasn't a raspy whisper anymore—it rang through the high-ceilinged room with clarity and power. "You tore it down. You locked me in the dark under the floorboards for three years. You let me starve while you sat above my head counting stolen money!"
The board members looked at Bianca in absolute horror. Whispers erupted around the table like a swarm of angry hornets.
"Is this true?" the elderly director demanded, standing up in disgust. "My God, Bianca... what have you done?"
May you like
Bianca looked around the room, seeing her empire collapse into dust in a matter of seconds. The cold, calculating corporate wolf had been completely exposed.
Then, her eyes snapped with a sudden, unhinged madness.
