Chapter 4 - The Arrival of Authority

Right on cue, the heavy double doors of the grand pavilion swung open with a resounding bang.
Ten private security guards in sharp navy blazers strode into the room in absolute, synchronized formation, led by the island's resort director, Mr. Vance. Their expressions were stone-cold, their posture rigidly professional. They moved with the unmistakable authority of men who answered only to the highest bidder—and right now, that was me.
Sarah smiled triumphantly through her tears, pointing a manicured, shaking finger straight at me.
"Arrest her!" she shrieked to the security team. "Charges of trespassing! Breach of peace! Disturbing a private ceremony! Drag her out of my sight!"
Mr. Vance didn't even glance in Sarah's direction. He ignored her completely, marching with brisk, purposeful strides directly to the foot of the stage. He stopped two paces away, bowed his head slightly toward me in deep respect, and held out a secure satellite radio receiver.
"The medevac has safely landed at the Male General trauma center, Ms. Hayes," Mr. Vance reported in a crisp, clear voice that carried across the silent pavilion. "The chief of surgery personally reviewed the scans. Mia has a fractured clavicle and severe soft-tissue bruising along her back and shoulders, but thankfully, there is no intracranial hemorrhage or spinal damage. She is conscious, stable, and resting comfortably under heavy sedation."
A heavy, suffocating wave of physical relief washed over my chest, loosening the iron band that had been squeezing my lungs since my daughter went over the rail.
With Mia safe, the last shred of human restraint I had reserved for my family evaporated into cold, calculating dust.
"Thank you, Vance," I said into the microphone, my voice steady and unyielding. "Now, initiate the immediate evacuation protocols across the entire island."
"Evacuation?!" my mother gasped, stumbling forward, her face draining of all color as she abandoned her haughty posture entirely. "Elena, darling, wait—let’s not be hasty! Mia fell, it was an accident! Sarah was just stressed—she’s your sister! We're family!"
"She shoved my eight-year-old child off a stone ledge," I replied, my voice stripped of all warmth, sounding more like a executioner reading a death warrant. "And you struck me across the face for trying to save her life. Then you," I turned my piercing gaze onto my father, whose complexion had gone paper-white, "dragged an unconscious little girl like a sack of trash across sharp rocks because you were terrified of what society photographers might think."
The guests were entirely silent now, many of them staring at Sarah, my mother, and my father with expressions of pure, unadulterated revulsion. The illusion of aristocratic grace had shattered completely, leaving behind only the ugly, rotting core of their true character.
"The wedding is officially over," I declared into the microphone.
I tapped the screen of my tablet once more.

"The island’s resort services are terminated effective immediately. The resort staff will not serve another glass of water or clear another plate. The auxiliary power to the wedding pavilions will not be restored. The yachts that brought you here are departing within fifteen minutes to ferry the guests back to the mainland. Every single guest will receive first-class passage back to the international airport entirely courtesy of Horizon Crest Holdings."
A collective murmur of movement rippled through the pavilion. High-society guests hastily grabbed their designer coats, handbags, and wraps, eager to distance themselves from the disgraced bridal party before the stench of scandal attached itself to them as well.
