Chapter 15 - The Digital Counter-Strike

Before Marcus could take another step forward, the sharp click of a shotgun safety being disengaged echoed through the rafters of the old depot.
"Federal jurisdiction and local tax audits don't mean a damn thing when you're caught in the middle of an active extortion attempt, Marcus," Deputy Rowan’s voice rang out from the shadows of the signal tower as he stepped into the light, his Remington shotgun leveled steadily at the financier's chest.
Marcus didn't flinch. Instead, a slow, mocking smirk spread across his face. He didn't look at Rowan; his eyes remained fixed on Lena. "You really think I came out here alone, niece? You think my legal team operates without a net?"
From behind the rusted steel frames of the loading dock doors, two heavy-set men in dark suits stepped out, their hands resting ominously inside their jackets. But before they could clear leather, the roar of a second police cruiser tore through the access road, its blue and red strobe lights flashing blindingly against the corrugated iron walls. Three local deputies spilled out of the vehicle, weapons drawn and trained directly on Marcus's muscle.
"Drop your hands where I can see them!" Rowan commanded, his voice ringing with absolute authority.
Marcus slowly raised his hands, though the smug smile never left his face. He looked at Lena with a chilling sense of amusement. "Go ahead, Deputy. Arrest me. Detain me. Lock me up in your little county jail. By morning, my automated legal protocols will automatically trigger a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing for Maple Grove, and the county will seize the property for unpaid back taxes before the sun sets tomorrow. You can't beat the system, Lena. You're just delaying the inevitable."
Lena walked slowly toward him, her footsteps measured and deliberate. She stopped just inches away from him, looking him dead in the eye. She didn't raise her voice; she didn't need to.
"You forgot one critical detail, Uncle," Lena whispered, her voice cutting through the cold night air.
Marcus frowned slightly. "And what's that?"
Lena reached into her coat pocket, pulled out her burner phone, and hit play on the screen. The crisp, clear audio of Marcus’s voice filled the space between them: *“Forging guardianship petitions and corporate deeds? That's not just corporate raiding... I am offering a streamlined transition... You think I came out here alone?”*
Marcus’s face drained of color in a fraction of a second. The smug composure shattered instantly. "Where did you—"
"While you were busy giving your villain monologue about portfolio optimization, Rowan wasn't just covering my flank," Lena said smoothly, slipping the phone back into her pocket. "He was recording the entire conversation via a federal wiretap authorization signed by Judge Callahan less than an hour ago. Extortion, conspiracy, and attempted coercion across state lines. That's not a civil probate matter anymore, Marcus. That's a federal penitentiary sentence."

Rowan stepped forward, holstering his shotgun and producing a pair of heavy steel handcuffs with a satisfying *clack*. "Turn around and place your hands behind your back, Mr. Vance. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a federal court of law."
