Chapter 10 - The Horizon of a New Dawn

The morning sun rose over Puget Sound, painting the sky in brilliant strokes of violet, gold, and burning orange.
From the balcony of the Moretti cliffside estate—now fully secured, reclaimed, and filled with genuine warmth—I stood wrapped in a heavy cashmere blanket, holding a mug of hot, steaming tea. The air was crisp and smelled of salt water and pine trees.
Behind me, the French doors slid open softly, and heavy footsteps padded across the wooden deck. Two strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me back against a warm, steady chest.
“You’re up early,” Luca murmured into my hair, resting his chin comfortably on my shoulder.
“Just watching the ships,” I replied, looking out across the sparkling expanse of water where cargo vessels moved steadily toward the horizon, their paths clear and unhindered.
“Thinking about the foundation?”
“Thinking about how far we’ve come.” I turned slightly in his arms, resting my hands against his chest, feeling the strong, rhythmic, completely healthy beat of his heart beneath my palms. “And how lucky we were that someone forgot to lock the pantry door.”

Luca laughed, a warm, resonant sound that carried out over the cliffside. He leaned down, pressing his lips softly to mine in a kiss that tasted of morning tea, safety, and a future that nothing could ever take away again.
Down below, the gates of the estate stood open to the morning light, welcoming a new day of life, work, and unbreakable peace. The game of shadows was over. The true story was just beginning.
