Chapter 14 - The Web Unravels

Brandon’s lower lip quivered as he tried to maintain his pathetic facade, but the crushing weight of Seraphina’s unrelenting gaze dismantled his defenses piece by piece.
"I... I don't know what you're talking about," Brandon stammered, though his voice lacked any real conviction. "I came here because my wife—my family—is here. I'm desperate!"
"You were never a husband, Brandon, and you were never family," Seraphina replied, her tone as sharp as obsidian glass. "You were a placeholder in a life you weren't equipped to maintain. And right now, you are reading lines written by someone else. Shall I have Lucas pull the financial transaction logs of the Greyhound bus ticket you used to get out here? Or perhaps trace the wire transfer that hit your burner phone forty-eight hours ago from a numbered shell corporation tied to Meridian Capital?"
The color drained entirely from Brandon’s face. The last vestige of his desperate bravado evaporated into thin air, leaving behind the hollow shell of a man who had sold his soul to the wrong masters and realized too late that the bill had come due.
"Julian Vance," Brandon whispered, the name escaping his lips like a dirty secret. "It was Julian Vance."
Seraphina didn't blink. The name confirmed every calculated suspicion she had harbored since the legal strikes began. Meridian Capital was making its move, using Brandon as a disposable pawn to test the perimeter of the Vance empire and probe for internal vulnerabilities.
"Tell me everything he promised you," Seraphina commanded, stepping slightly closer.
"He... he said if I could get onto the estate grounds—even just near the perimeter—and plant a small diagnostic relay disc in the utility junction, he would clear my debts, restore my corporate standing, and give me a fresh start overseas," Brandon confessed, tears of absolute humiliation finally spilling over his eyelids. "He said you were arrogant, that your father was losing his grip, and that the Vance dynasty was ripe for a hostile takeover. I didn't have a choice, Sera! They cornered me!"
"You always had a choice, Brandon," Seraphina said softly, turning her back on him with absolute, freezing finality. "You chose greed over loyalty, cowardice over integrity, and manipulation over partnership. And now, you are going to help us write the final chapter of Julian Vance’s corporate suicide."
Seraphina raised her hand slightly toward the reinforced glass door. Lucas stepped inside immediately, holding a heavy-duty digital recording tablet.

"Set up the uplink," Seraphina instructed calmly, not even bothering to look back at the whimpering man behind her. "We are going to send a personal message to Meridian Capital—and we’re going to deliver it on our own terms."
