Chapter 25 - The Federal Net Closes

The flashing red and blue strobes of unmarked federal vehicles suddenly flooded the dark studio through the open front entrance, painting the exposed brick walls in a frantic, pulsating rhythm. The heavy boots of tactical operatives rushed across the threshold, their weapons drawn and laser sights painting the interior in lethal green dots.
"Down on the ground! Do it now! Hands behind your head!" the lead marshal shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos with absolute authority.
Arthur froze, his arms half-raised, his mouth parting in silent protest as two heavy-set operatives slammed him face-first onto the concrete floor, securing industrial zip-ties around his wrists with practiced efficiency. The arrogant, untouchable architect who had terrorized my daughter for years was reduced to a squirming, helpless captive, muttering frantic legal jargon into the dust of the floor as he was hauled roughly to his feet.
"Arthur Sterling, you are under federal arrest for violation of interstate restraining orders, extortion, asset tampering, and witness intimidation," the marshal recited mechanically, reading him his rights while pressing him toward the exit. As they dragged him past us, Arthur turned his head, locking his wild, desperate eyes on Emily one last time.
"You think this is a victory?" he spat, a bloody grin stretching across his face. "You didn't check the off-site cloud sync, Emily. The moment I was detained, an automated script released every single confidential drafting file and private journal entry to the national architectural press. Your career is dead by noon."
Emily didn't flinch. She didn't drop her gaze. She simply watched him disappear into the flashing lights of the alleyway, her expression as cold and unyielding as the architectural steel she designed with.
"He's bluffing," I managed to groan, pulling myself up into a sitting position against the kitchenette counter with her help. My left shoulder still throbbed from the taser discharge, but the adrenaline was slowly receding, replaced by a profound, overwhelming sense of relief. "It’s just his last, pathetic attempt to hurt you from the inside."
"I know he's bluffing, Dad," Emily said softly, kneeling beside me to inspect my arm. Her hands were steady now, completely devoid of fear. "Because three months ago, when I first started therapy, my lawyer and I anticipated this exact contingency. We migrated all primary intellectual property ownership to an independent trust under your name. The files he leaked are legally protected mock-ups designed to trigger a digital honey-pot trap."
I stared at her in stunned silence, a slow, proud smile breaking across my face despite the pain. "You played him at his own game."
May you like
"No," Emily said, helping me to my feet as the first paramedics rushed through the doorway with a medical kit. "I just stopped letting him write the rules."
