Chapter 7 - THE REVELATION

The silence in the ballroom was absolute. You could have heard a pin drop on the polished parquet floor.
Paige stepped forward, her face flushing crimson, her manicured fingers gripping the fabric of her designer dress. “Who do you think you are, crashing a private party? Security! Someone get this lunatic out of here!”
Not a single security guard moved. They all knew who I was, and more importantly, they knew who Victoria Vance represented.
Michael grabbed Paige’s arm, his hand trembling slightly. He stared at me, his chest rising and falling in rapid, shallow breaths as his mathematical brain raced to calculate the timeline, the dates, the geography of our separation.
“No,” Michael whispered, shaking his head in sheer denial. “No. That’s... that’s impossible. You moved out in May. We hadn’t slept together in... in months before that!”
“March sixteenth, Michael,” I replied smoothly, stepping a little closer so only he and Paige could hear. “Our anniversary weekend. The weekend you bought Paige her first diamond tennis bracelet using a corporate expense code you thought our accountants wouldn't catch. Do you remember?”
Michael staggered back a half-step, colliding against the edge of a floral arrangement table. The color had completely vanished from his face, leaving him looking sickly gray under the warm chandelier light.
“You... you were pregnant then?” he choked out.
“I received the confirmation ultrasound at 3:27 p.m. on the afternoon you walked out of this house,” I said, my voice dropping to a cool, crystalline register. “While you were upstairs betraying me in our own bed with your secretary, I was sitting in a doctor's office crying tears of joy because I was finally carrying the son you had begged for over a decade.”
A collective gasp swept through the crowd behind us. Whispers turned into audible murmurs as guests began putting the pieces together—the sudden divorce, the corporate audit, the frozen accounts, and now, the legitimate, senior-line heir standing right in front of them.
Paige’s eyes widened in sudden, frantic panic as she looked at Michael. “Michael... what is she talking about? Is that... is that true? Your wife is having a boy too?”
Michael couldn't answer. He looked trapped in a nightmare of his own making, his empire crumbling, his mistress panicking, and his true heir standing right before him.
“Enjoy your party, Michael,” I said softly, turning on my heel with effortless grace. “Make sure you save a cigar for yourself. You’re going to need something to calm your nerves when the paternity subpoenas arrive.”

As I walked out of the ballroom, leaving behind a room of stunned socialites and a shattered husband, my phone buzzed in my purse.
It was a text from Victoria Vance:Magnificent performance, Rachel. The DNA test motions have just been electronically filed.
