Chapter 17 - THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR

As the new school year began in September, the shadows of the previous Christmas had completely faded into distant memories.
Ella had entered the fourth grade with a newfound confidence that was undeniable. She joined the school debate club, tried out for the youth soccer team, and continued to excel in her academic studies. The fear of "shining too bright" that Diane had tried so desperately to instill in her had been completely replaced by an unshakeable sense of self-worth.
One Friday evening, Eric came home from work carrying a large cardboard box. He set it on the dining room table with a secretive grin.
"What's in the box, Dad?" Ella asked, running into the room with Hannah right behind her.
"Well," Eric said, pulling out a pair of scissors. "Since the school year is off to such a great start, I thought it was time we made a permanent addition to the living room."
He sliced through the tape and pulled out a beautifully crafted, custom wooden wall shelf with built-in LED lighting and glass display cases.
"What's that for?" Hannah asked, leaning over the table.
"This," Eric announced, looking at both of his daughters, "is the Miller Achievement Wall."
Over the next two hours, Eric mounted the elegant shelf right alongside the framed spelling bee certificate in the main hallway. But instead of just holding Ella's award, the shelf was designed with multiple sections.
Together, we placed Ella’s crystal trophy on the top shelf. Beside it, we placed Hannah’s state science fair ribbon that she had won the previous spring. Below that, we added space for photo albums, sports medals, and future certificates.
"This wall," Eric said, standing back with his arm around my waist, "is for every single victory, big or small, that happens in this house. No one hides their trophies here. No one puts their light under a basket."
Ella looked at the illuminated wooden shelf, her eyes reflecting the warm glow of the lights.
"Even if someone gets jealous?" Ella asked softly.
May you like
Eric knelt down beside her, taking her small hands in his. "If someone gets jealous of your success, Ella, that is a problem inside their own heart, not yours. People who truly love you will always celebrate when you shine."
Ella smiled brightly, wrapping her arms around Eric's neck. "I love our wall, Dad."
