Chapter 16 - A New Chapter Begins

Two weeks after the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dana invited me out to dinner at an upscale rooftop restaurant overlooking the sparkling city skyline.
We had worked side-by-side through impossible deadlines, stressful board meetings, and high-stakes negotiations. But sitting across from her tonight, away from blueprints and hospital budgets, the atmosphere felt distinctly different.
Dana took a sip of her wine, looking across the candlelit table with a warm, knowing smile. “You know, Grant, when I hired you, I thought I was just getting a brilliant project manager.”
“And what do you think you got now?” I asked, a gentle smile playing at the corners of my lips.
“A partner,” Dana said softly, her eyes holding mine. “Someone who knows how to weather any storm without losing his kindness, his strength, or his devotion as a father.”
I reached across the table, sliding my hand over hers. Her fingers intertwined naturally with mine. “I think hiring you was the best decision I ever made, Dana.”
“Technically, I hired you,” she laughed playfully.
