Chapter 18 - The London Connection

Within hours of identifying Alistair Vance’s digital assault, Dorian and Marin mobilized their inner circle, transforming the Vance Tower penthouse into a secure military-grade command post. Federal authorities, still reeling from the successful prosecution of the Aegis and Ironclad syndicates, provided satellite intelligence and diplomatic wiretaps that confirmed Alistair’s vast European network was preparing to launch a coordinated financial and physical strike against Chicago. Marin spent eighteen consecutive hours locked in the data center, constructing an impenetrable cryptographic firewall while simultaneously auditing every international asset tied to Vance Enterprises to trap any hidden Trojan horses planted by Alistair’s operatives. Dorian stood by the reinforced glass windows, his phone pressed to his ear as he coordinated with federal task force commanders and international security liaisons in London and Zurich. “Alistair thinks he can suffocate us from across the Atlantic by freezing our liquidity and cutting off our supply chains,” Dorian said coldly into the receiver, before ending the encrypted call with a single, decisive click. He turned around, walking over to where Marin sat pale and exhausted at the console, her eyes still locked on the scrolling green diagnostic lines. Dorian placed a steady, warm hand on her shoulder, gently pulling her back from the keyboard. “You’ve been down here for nearly a full day, Marin. You need to rest,” he insisted softly. Marin looked up at him, her exhaustion evident in the dark circles beneath her eyes, yet her gaze remained stubbornly fierce. “I can’t stop, Dorian. If Alistair’s automated asset-freezing script executes before the London markets open tomorrow morning, our accounts will be locked across three continents.” Dorian smiled gently, a rare, profound expression of tenderness softening his rugged features. “Let him try,” Dorian replied with absolute, unyielding certainty. “We didn't survive the Chicago underworld just to let a ghost from London dictate our future. The trap is already set.” Down on the floor beside them, Titan stood up, shaking his massive head and letting out a sharp bark of approval, as if echoing Dorian’s absolute resolve. The battle lines were drawn, and the final confrontation across oceans was about to begin.
