Chapter 25 - The Counter-Strike

A cold fury surged through my veins—not the hot, blind rage of my past self, but a sharp, calculating tactical anger. They thought they could rewrite history. They thought they could crush me beneath their lies just like they had always done.
They didn't realize the game had changed.
"Let them try," I said softly, a dangerous edge creeping into my voice. I reached out, unlatched the chain lock, and pulled the door wide open, stepping forward so I stood toe-to-toe with Julian.
Julian blinked, surprised by my sudden shift in posture. "Clara? What are you going to do?"
I reached down, picked up the heavy envelope from the entryway table, and tapped it against my palm. "For thirty years, my family relied on one fundamental weapon: my silence. I looked up, locking my eyes onto Julian’s with absolute, unyielding resolve.
"She pushed me too far," I continued, my voice steady and cold. "And instead of fixing her mess, I watched it burn. Now, if my parents and my dear sister want to play a game of public reputation destruction, I’m going to give them a masterclass in collateral damage."
Julian swallowed hard, a shiver visibly running down his spine. For the first time, he wasn't looking at the quiet, background scapegoat of the family. He was looking at the woman who had just dismantled their entire dynasty without raising a single fist.
"What do you need me to do?" he asked, his voice firming up with sudden, newfound loyalty.

I smiled—a sharp, brilliant smile that promised total annihilation.
"Keep your phone on, Julian," I said, turning back toward my living room with the envelope in hand. "Because by noon today, the family group chat is going to get a very interesting wake-up call."
