Chapter 30 - The Open Horizon

The sun began to dip below the Manhattan skyline, casting a breathtaking golden hour glow over the forty-second-floor office. The towering skyscrapers of the financial district glittered like diamonds against the violet twilight sky, stretching out into an endless, magnificent horizon.
Patrick stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass window, holding a crystal tumbler of aged bourbon. He looked at his reflection in the glass—not a ghost of his past, not an abused child, not a burdened provider, but a self-made man standing at the absolute summit of his world.
His phone on the mahogany desk chimed softly with a calendar notification: *Dinner reservation with Elena and the executive team at Le Bernardin.*
He smiled, turned away from the window, and reached for his suit jacket draped over the back of his chair.
As he walked toward the door, he paused for a fraction of a second to glance back at the gleaming brass nameplate beside his office entrance: *Patrick Vance, Senior Managing Partner.*
Down below, the endless river of yellow cabs and rushing pedestrians flowed through the arteries of New York City—a city of millions of stories, of endless struggles, and infinite second chances. He had walked away from the ashes of Maplewood Drive with nothing more than a cardboard box and a bruised soul, and out of those very ashes, he had forged an unbreakable kingdom.
He turned off the office lights, stepped out into the hallway, and locked the door behind him with a satisfying, permanent click.

The past was dead. The present was brilliant. And as he walked toward the private elevator to meet his true family and peers, Patrick Vance finally felt completely, undeniably free.
The city awaited. The horizon was wide open. And for the first time in his life, every single step forward belonged entirely to him.
