Chapter 8 - The Federal Sweep

The ballroom transformed from a high-society reception into an active investigative detention zone. Federal agents moved systematically through the room, collecting statements, downloading security footage directly from the hotel’s mainframe, and serving subpoenas to key wedding guests involved in the public harassment and assault. Nathan Whitmore’s father was escorted out of a VIP lounge upstairs by federal marshals in handcuffs, his multi-million dollar real estate empire crumbling in real-time under the weight of audited financial crimes.
Chloe sat slumped in a gilded chair at the head table, her designer wedding gown looking more like a prison jumpsuit as she stared blankly at the floor. The guests who had eagerly joined in pointing fingers at Vivienne earlier in the evening now avoided eye contact with everyone, terrified that their own shady business dealings or social associations would place them in the crosshairs of General Hayes’s sweep.

Marcus stood beside his daughter, his hand resting reassuringly on her shoulder. “Transport is ready, Captain. The medical team is standing by at the secure estate to check on your vitals, and your quarters have been fully prepared.” Vivienne took a deep breath, feeling the heavy, suffocating atmosphere of the ballroom lift away. She looked around the room one last time—at the ruined white roses, the shattered champagne glasses, and the pathetic wreckage of a family built entirely on arrogance and cruelty. “Let's go, Dad,” Vivienne said softly.
As father and daughter walked arm-in-arm toward the grand exit, the federal marshals parted to let them through. The heavy doors closed behind them, shutting out the weeping bride, the ruined groom, and a society that had learned the hardest way possible never to mistake a woman’s silence for weakness.
