Chapter 26 - The Contents of Box 704

The interior of Vault 704 was remarkably sparse, containing only a single black Pelican waterproof case resting on a steel shelf. Ernest reached inside, lifted the heavy case out, and placed it flat upon the stainless-steel examination table provided by the bank director.

Arthur stood beside him, his weathered hands resting quietly on the edge of the table as Ernest unlatched the heavy dual-combination locks with a pair of numbers Clara had provided from her witness testimony.

*Snap. Snap.*

Ernest lifted the rubber-sealed lid. Inside, resting neatly in custom-cut foam compartments, were three items: a high-capacity encrypted flash drive containing mirror images of every offshore transaction Marcus and Julian had executed; a handwritten ledger detailing the names of the corporate officers, politicians, and real estate brokers who had accepted bribes to facilitate the fraudulent seizure of Ernest’s estate; and a laminated photograph taken twenty-five years ago showing a much younger Julian Vance shaking hands with Marcus outside a law office in downtown Chicago.

"They planned this for a quarter of a century," Arthur whispered, staring down at the photograph in stunned disbelief. "Marcus wasn't just a spoiled son going astray, Ernest. He was groomed from childhood by my own brother to take everything you built."

Ernest didn't answer immediately. He picked up the encrypted flash drive, turning it over slowly in his palm. The cold plastic felt like a live grenade. With these files, he didn't just have enough evidence to keep Marcus behind bars for the rest of his natural life; he had enough ammunition to dismantle Julian Vance’s entire global financial empire down to the bare concrete.

"Mr. Harrison," Ernest said, looking up at the bank director who stood nervously a few paces away.

"Yes, Mr. Vance?" the director stammered.

"I need an encrypted satellite uplink connected to federal prosecutors in the Department of Financial Crimes, along with a secure notary public and two armed couriers," Ernest instructed, his voice ringing with absolute, unyielding authority. "We are going to file a priority restructuring injunction that will freeze every single asset connected to *Veritas Holdings* within the hour."

"Right away, sir!" Harrison turned and hurried down the corridor, his footsteps echoing sharply off the concrete floor.

Arthur looked at Ernest, a grim, respectful smile touching the corners of his mouth. "You always were a formidable opponent in the boardroom, my friend. It seems Julian forgot who taught us both how to survive in the first place."

"Julian is about to receive a masterclass," Ernest replied coldly, slipping the flash drive into his pocket.
