Chapter 24 - THE LAST COMMAND

Arthur didn't drop his weapon, but he knew the math of the situation. Half a dozen rifles aimed at point-blank range meant that even if he managed to neutralize Blackwood, he wouldn't survive the return fire.

"Drop the weapon, General," a harsh, unfamiliar voice commanded from the shadows behind the tactical team. "Last warning."

Blackwood smiled, walking slowly toward Arthur until he was standing just inches away from the muzzle of the general's pistol. He reached out with two fingers, gently pushing the barrel aside with an insulting, arrogant familiarity.

"You see, Arthur? That's your fatal flaw," Blackwood whispered, his eyes gleaming with malicious triumph. "You spent your whole life believing that honor, integrity, and doing the right thing would somehow save you in the end. But in the real world, power is the only currency that matters."

Arthur looked straight into Blackwood’s eyes, his expression completely devoid of fear, carrying only the quiet, crushing weight of a commander who had seen every horizon before.

"You're right about one thing, Victor," Arthur said, his voice so quiet it barely carried over the roar of the rain outside. "Honor doesn't always save the man who holds it."

Blackwood frowned, sensing a sudden shift in the general’s posture that didn't fit a defeated prisoner. "What are you talking about?"

Arthur smiled—a slow, bitter, unbreakable smile. "It saves everyone else."

Before Blackwood could react, Arthur reached down and slammed his hand directly onto the emergency override console beside the window, triggering the master circuit breaker for the entire rail yard.

Every monitor in the room went pitch black instantly, plunging the tower into absolute, suffocating darkness. Instantly, the harsh stutter of automatic gunfire erupted from the stairwell as the mercenaries fired blindly into the empty space where the general had been standing only a fraction of a second before—
