Chapter 8 - THE COLLAPSE

The fallout was swift, brutal, and absolute.
Within two hours of the press conference, the unedited video went viral across every major social platform, amassing over fifty million views globally. The public backlash against the Mitchell family was unprecedented. The phrase "Beggars have no place" became a national trend, condemned by commentators, celebrities, and business leaders alike.
Board members of Mitchell Capital resigned in rapid succession. Investors rushed to withdraw their funds, triggering an immediate run on the firm. By four in the afternoon, the New York Stock Exchange suspended trading of Mitchell Capital shares after they plummeted by eighty-two percent in a single trading session.
At six o'clock that evening, federal agents from the Securities and Exchange Commission, accompanied by local police, executed a search warrant on the downtown offices of Mitchell Capital and the Belle Meade estate. The audit triggered by Carter Global had uncovered what George Mitchell had been desperately trying to hide for two years: a massive, forty-million-dollar Ponzi scheme designed to cover up systemic losses in offshore accounts.
In the living room of the Belle Meade estate, the scene was one of total chaos.
Federal agents were carrying out boxes of documents, seizing luxury cars, and placing evidence tags on expensive artwork.
George Mitchell sat on his velvet sofa in handcuffs, staring blankly at the floor while an agent read him his rights. Patricia was screaming hysterically at the officers, claiming political persecution, while her personal bank accounts were being frozen one by one.
Vanessa was in her bedroom, huddled in the corner, clutching her phone as her social media accounts were flooded with millions of messages of condemnation. Brands that had sponsored her lifestyle canceled their contracts instantly. Her socialite friends blocked her number.
Then came the knock at her door.
Two uniformed police officers walked into the room, accompanied by a detective.
"Vanessa Mitchell?" the detective asked coldly.
Vanessa looked up, her hair messy, her eyes bloodshot. "What is this? Get out of my room!"
"You are under arrest for misdemeanor assault and felony filing of a false police report," the officer said, stepping forward and pulling out pair of steel handcuffs.
May you like
"No! You can't touch me! Do you know who I am?!" Vanessa shrieked, kicking and struggling as the officer pulled her arms behind her back and snapped the cuffs onto her wrists.
"I know exactly who you are, Miss Mitchell," the detective replied as they pulled her toward the door. "You're the girl from the video."
