Chapter 10 - The Unstoppable Harvest

The first thaw of early spring came with a rush of warm southern air that melted the snow off the rolling fields of Iowa in less than a week, turning the dark, rich earth into a sea of fertile, waiting soil.
I stood on the front porch of Carter Acres, breathing in the crisp, damp scent of spring rain and freshly turned dirt. The John Deere tractors were already rumbling in the distance, cutting clean, straight lines across our family’s fields as my brother and father prepared the ground for the upcoming corn planting. Every single acre belonged to us, free and clear of liens, mortgages, and corporate predators.
My phone buzzed in my coat pocket. I pulled it out and saw a notification from Marcus.
*Boss, the state banking commission just officially approved our corporate charter upgrade. Carter & Associates is now a certified Tier-1 financial advisory firm for the entire Midwest agricultural cooperative network. Client intake meetings are booked out three months in advance.*
A proud smile spread across my face. I tapped out a quick reply: *Lock in the expansion team for the southern district. Let's make this our best harvest yet.*
Life had not merely returned to normal; it had evolved into something far greater than I ever could have dreamed during those lonely, desperate days in the Sterling estate. I was no longer the farm girl trying to survive in a world that wanted to consume her, nor was I the battered wife hiding in a guest room counting her digital evidence. I was Megan Carter—forensic accountant, successful entrepreneur, master of her own destiny, and the unyielding protector of her family's legacy.

As I turned to walk back inside the farmhouse, a bright, golden shaft of sunlight broke through the heavy gray clouds on the horizon, illuminating the vast, green-tinged fields of Iowa as far as the eye could see. The harvest was coming, and this time, every single grain belonged entirely to us.
