Chapter 8 - The Dominoes Fall

While Mark was destroying his own defense in interrogation room B, Chloe Miller was experiencing her own rapid descent into reality two floors down.

Chloe had packed a designer overnight bag, thinking she could slip through Dulles International Airport and make it to the Cayman Islands before federal marshals caught wind of the freeze on her accounts. But the elite financial crimes unit tracking the Vance & Miller Holdings shell corporation was already steps ahead of her.

As Chloe slid her passport across the first-class check-in counter, two federal agents in dark suits stepped quietly on either side of her.

"Ms. Miller? Step away from the counter, please," Agent Miller—no relation to Chloe—spoke in a flat, monotone voice that brooked no argument.

"There's been a mistake," Chloe stammered, her voice pitching up in panic as airport travelers glanced over. "I'm a corporate executive—"

"You're an accessory to wire fraud, embezzlement, and conspiracy to commit aggravated child endangerment," the agent replied, clicking handcuffs around her slender wrists with practiced efficiency. "Let's take a walk."

Within hours, Chloe’s resolve vanished. Facing twenty-five years in federal prison for her role in laundering the trust fund assets and assisting Mark in covering up Lily’s injuries, she didn't hesitate to offer a full plea deal. She handed over encrypted chat logs, email chains detailing the asset transfers, and direct instructions from Mark and Diane outlining how they intended to declare Lily an "uncontrollable dependent" if Elena returned from deployment too early.

The house of cards wasn't just collapsing—it was vaporizing.
