Chapter 11 - The Final Boardroom Showdown

The atmosphere in the Sterling Tower boardroom was electric.

The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, casting long, fiery streaks of orange and red across the glass walls of the high-rise. Around the obsidian table sat the remaining board members, looking visibly nervous as they whispered among themselves.

The heavy mahogany doors swung open, and Lucía walked in. But this time, she wasn't alone. Walking right beside her, matching her stride step-for-step, was Mateo.

A collective murmur rippled through the room. Julian’s high-priced defense attorney, a silver-haired shark named Sterling Vance (no relation, though cut from the same cloth), stood up from his seat with a condescending smirk.

"Well, well," the lawyer drawled, adjusting his cuffs. "I see the board is allowing unauthorized family melodrama into official proceedings. Under Section 12 of the corporate charter—"

"Save your breath, Counselor," Mateo interrupted, his voice cutting across the room with an authority that stunned even the veteran lawyer. Mateo walked to the head of the table, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Lucía. "My brother’s injunction is built on a fraudulent premise, and you know it. We have the original, unredacted trust documents signed by my father and countersigned by the state probate judge twenty-four years ago."

Mateo slammed a thick manila folder onto the obsidian table. The sound echoed like a gavel.

"Furthermore," Mateo continued, looking directly at the defense lawyer, "as a secondary beneficiary and legal heir holding twenty percent of voting shares, I formally second every motion put forward by CEO Lucía Sterling. Any further attempt by Julian’s faction to obstruct the federal audit will be met with immediate counter-suits for conspiracy to commit financial fraud."

The defense attorney’s smirk vanished instantly. He looked down at the documents, flipped open the first page, and realized the game was entirely, irrevocably over. Julian’s legal safety net had just been shredded by his own flesh and blood.

Thomas Vance, the senior board member, cleared his throat, raised his hand, and spoke into the silence: "All in favor of dismissing the injunction and ratifying Lucía Sterling as permanent Chairperson and CEO of Sterling Holdings, raise your hand."

One by one, every hand around the table went up.

Lucía exhaled a breath she felt like she’d been holding for twenty years. The empire that had been built on her erasure now belonged to her—not as a victim seeking scraps, but as the architect of a new dawn.
