Chapter 6 - The Morning After the Storm

The morning sun cast long, sharp shadows across the mahogany conference room on the top floor of the Sterling Tower. The room was designed to intimidate—paned glass walls overlooking the city skyline, massive leather chairs, and a polished obsidian table that reflected the cold ambition of everyone who sat around it.

When Lucía pushed open the double doors at exactly 8:58 AM, all conversation ceased.

She wasn't wearing her wedding dress anymore. Instead, she wore a sharply tailored, charcoal-grey pantsuit, her dark hair pulled back into a sleek, low ponytail. She walked with an absolute, unshakeable poise, followed closely by Victor Sterling and a new team of corporate attorneys.

Julian Sterling was already seated at the head of the table, his tie loosened, dark circles under his eyes hinting at a sleepless night spent battling margin calls and emergency board meetings. When he saw Lucía walk in, he stood up so fast his chair scraped loudly against the floor.

"You have no right to be in this building!" Julian shouted, his voice echoing off the glass walls. "Security! Get her out of here! This is a private corporate board meeting!"

"Sit down, Julian," a calm, elderly voice spoke from the middle of the table. It was Arthur Sterling’s oldest friend and co-founder of the board, Thomas Vance. "The security staff received new instructions at 7:00 AM. Furthermore, as of the execution of the primary trust validation filed by the probate court this morning, Miss Lucía Sterling holds fifty-one percent voting power in this enterprise."

Julian’s face went pale. He looked around the room, expecting support from the other board members, but every single person avoided his gaze. They were rats deserting a sinking ship, aligning themselves with whoever held the purse strings.

Lucía walked slowly to the head of the table, opposite Julian. She didn't sit down immediately. Instead, she placed both hands flat on the obsidian surface, leaning forward slightly as she stared directly into Julian’s bloodshot eyes.

"Good morning, brother," Lucía said, her voice smooth, icy, and dripping with absolute control.

"I am not your brother!" Julian snarled, slamming his fist onto the table. "You’re an opportunist! A street rat who wore a wedding dress as a prop to pull off the greatest con in corporate history! You think you can just walk in here and take over everything my mother and I built?"

"Your mother built nothing," Lucía replied evenly, not flinching an inch. "She inherited a legacy of fear and maintained it through cruelty. And you? You rode the coattails of stolen property."

Lucía straightened up, gesturing to her lead attorney, who immediately began distributing thick, bound dossiers to every member of the board.

"Inside those folders," Lucía announced, her voice carrying clear and commanding across the room, "you will find documented evidence of Julian’s systematic embezzlement of R&D funds over the past three fiscal years, alongside shell companies set up in offshore accounts to siphon capital away from Sterling Holdings. Coupled with the verification of my identity as the legitimate primary heir, the board now has two choices."

She paused, letting the silence build before delivering the final blow.

"Option one: Vote unanimously to strip Julian of his CEO title effective immediately, cooperate fully with the federal audit, and allow me to restructure the executive board. Option two: Join him in federal indictment for accessory to corporate fraud."
