Chapter 17 - The Manhattan Celebration

Two weeks after the attempted raid on the Upstate estate, the glittering rooftop terrace of the Cray Tower in Midtown Manhattan played host to an event unlike anything the tri-state syndicate network had ever witnessed.

For decades, syndicate gatherings had been grim, clandestine affairs held in smoke-filled backrooms, characterized by whispered threats, hidden weapons, and paranoid glances. But tonight was different. Tonight was a celebration of absolute, undisputed dominance—and legitimacy.

The sprawling open-air terrace was bathed in amber fairy lights that twinkled against the obsidian backdrop of the Manhattan skyline. Below us, the endless river of yellow cabs and glowing headlights flowed like molten gold. Regional directors, high-ranking corporate executives, and trusted associates mingled in tailored Armani suits and silk evening gowns, sipping vintage champagne and murmuring polite, respectful greetings as Dominic and I walked among them.

I wore a sleek, midnight-blue velvet gown that swept the floor with quiet elegance, my hair styled in an intricate twist. As Head of Estate Operations and the operational mind behind the new logistics network, I wasn't just Dominic’s partner; I was a recognized power player in my own right. Men who had once sneered at me when I was a catering worker now bowed their heads respectfully as I passed, offering toasts to my strategic brilliance.

Marcus, dressed in a miniature three-piece tuxedo that made him look like a pint-sized boss, was currently being carried on Dante Moretti’s shoulders near the glass banister, giggling uncontrollably as Dante pointed out the distant lights of the George Washington Bridge.

"You look stunning tonight," a deep, smooth voice murmured near my ear.

I turned to find Dominic standing beside me, a flute of champagne resting lightly between his long fingers. His dark suit fit his powerful frame to absolute perfection, and the silver threads in his tailored vest caught the ambient light.

"Thank you," I smiled, clinking my glass against his with a soft chime. "Though I have to admit, standing here in the middle of Manhattan surrounded by fifty syndicate bosses who used to want us dead still feels a little surreal."

Dominic chuckled, a rich, resonant sound that sent a warm shiver down my spine. He took a sip of his champagne, his slate-gray eyes sweeping across the glittering terrace before locking onto mine with fierce devotion. "They don't want us dead anymore, Clara. They want to survive. And survival in this city means aligning with the Cray dynasty."

"Is everyone accounted for?" I asked, lowering my voice slightly as a group of regional directors from the Boston territory nodded respectfully in our direction. "No lingering Syracuse loyalists?"

"Completely eradicated," Dominic assured me, setting his glass down on a passing waiter's tray and stepping closer, wrapping his strong arm securely around my waist. "The old world is dead, Clara. The syndicates are no longer run by warlords hiding in the shadows. We are legitimate. We control the ports, the logistics, the corporate boards, and the streets. And no one will ever threaten our family again."

Across the terrace, Marcus let out a joyful shout, pointing excitedly at a helicopter passing overhead. Dante laughed, adjusting the boy on his shoulders with practiced ease.

I leaned my head against Dominic’s solid shoulder, watching the city lights blur into a magnificent symphony of color and ambition. We had risen from the absolute bottom—from desperation, bills I couldn't pay, and the cruel mockery of men like Victor Strand—to build an everlasting empire. And as Dominic pressed a soft, lingering kiss to the top of my head, I knew our story was no longer about survival. It was about forever.
