Chapter 10 - A New Horizon

Six months later.

The spring flowers were in full bloom around the stone walkway of my house. The hydrangeas Grant’s relatives had flattened were back, bigger and brighter blue than they had ever been before.

I sat on my back patio, sipping a morning tea while reviewing the quarterly financial expansion plan for Chesapeake Logistics. As CFO, I had just finalized our company’s acquisition of a major mid-Atlantic shipping terminal, a move that doubled our enterprise value and cemented my seat on the executive board for the next decade.

My phone rang on the glass table. It was Victoria Vance.

"Morning, Claire," Victoria said, her tone bright. "Just calling with the absolute final administrative wrap-up. The deed registry has officially updated the property title. You are listed as the sole, one-hundred-percent owner of the Annapolis estate. No liens, no secondary claims, no encumbrances."

"Thank you, Victoria. For everything."

"You earned this peace, Claire. By the way... did you hear about Kelsey?"

"No," I said, leaning back in my chair. "What about her?"

"She accepted an entry-level position at a firm in Philadelphia. She paid back her portion of the legal fees and has completely cut ties with Grant. She’s starting over clean."

"Good for her," I said sincerely. "I hope she learned to read contracts before signing them."

Victoria laughed. "Take care of yourself, Claire."

"I always do."

I hung up the phone and looked out over the sparkling blue waters of the bay.

There were no loud country songs rattling the windows. There was no barbecue smoke ruining the fresh air. There were no arrogant men pretending to own things they had never worked to build.

There was only the quiet, steady rhythm of a life rebuilt on truth, strength, and complete independence.

I opened my laptop, turned to a clean page on my ledger, and began planning my future.
