Chapter 29 - Dawn at the Plaza

The morning sun cast a pale, golden glow over Central Park as my motorcade glided silently up Fifth Avenue and came to a smooth stop outside the grand stone entrance of the historic Plaza Hotel.

The iconic hotel was still waking up, but inside the private executive conference suite on the top floor, the atmosphere was thick with tension, greed, and calculated betrayal.

Seated around the mahogany table were the five primary board members of our Pacific-Rim shipping partner—men who had spent the last week whispering behind my back, plotting to sign away our exclusive transit routes to the mysterious *Apex Syndicate*.

At the head of the table sat Thomas Sterling—no relation to Arthur or Helena, but an aging, ruthless corporate raider known for dismantling companies from the inside out.

Thomas checked his gold pocket watch, looking up at the corporate secretary with an impatient sneer.

"Where is the representative from Apex?" Thomas muttered, tapping his fingers against the polished wood. "The transfer documents need to be signed before Claire Vance finishes her breakfast at the Pierre. Once those signatures are dry, her global logistics network is ours."

"Right on time, Mr. Sterling," a cool, melodic voice echoed from the heavy double doors of the private suite.

The entire board froze.

The heavy oak doors swung open smoothly, pushed aside by Marcus Croft in a sharp tuxedo.

And then, I walked in.

I wore an ivory silk pantsuit that caught the morning light like polished pearl, my diamond-and-sapphire ring glittering against the dark wood of the table. My expression was serene, untouchable, and radiating absolute power.

Thomas Sterling leaped to his feet, his face turning pale with shock.

"C-Claire Vance?!" Thomas stammered, grabbing the edge of the table to steady himself. "How... how did you get in here? Security in the lobby was instructed—"

"Security in the lobby took an early retirement about five minutes ago, Thomas," I interrupted smoothly, walking right to the head of the table—directly opposite him—and placing both hands palms-down on the mahogany.

"This is a private meeting!" another board member shouted, standing up indignantly. "You have no legal right to—"

"I have every legal right," I cut him off, my voice dropping an octave, ringing with crystal-clear authority. "As the majority shareholder of this corporation—holding fifty-one percent of the voting stock acquired through emergency market maneuvers executed at 4:00 AM this morning."

The room erupted into absolute panic.

Several board members grabbed their tablets, frantically refreshing their financial feeds, only to watch in horror as their private portfolios flashed red.

"That's... that's impossible!" Thomas gasped, beads of sweat breaking out across his forehead. "Apex Syndicate was supposed to fund our buyout! They guaranteed—"

"They guaranteed nothing," I finished for him, walking slowly around the table toward his chair, my heels clicking like a death march on the hardwood floor. "Because Apex Syndicate doesn't exist anymore. The shell accounts were frozen by federal regulators thirty minutes ago, and their primary benefactor is currently being fitted for handcuffs in Zurich."

Thomas collapsed back into his leather chair, looking up at me like a man staring down the barrel of a loaded gun.

"What... what do you want?" he whispered, his voice completely broken.

I stopped right beside his chair, leaning down slightly so my voice was meant only for him.

May you like

"I don't want your money, Thomas," I said quietly, a cold, beautiful smile touching my lips. "I want your resignation. Effective immediately."
