Chapter 27 - The Counter-Strike Across the Atlantic

On the glowing screen of my phone, a real-time global market feed displayed the stock valuation of Helena’s primary holding corporation—Sterling Global Holdings—crashing in a vertical, blood-red plummet.
*Down 42%. Trading halted on the London Stock Exchange.*
Helena stared at the screen, her breath catching in her throat, her manicured fingers trembling slightly as she reached out as if to touch the glass.
"N-No," she whispered, her voice losing its polished composure for the first time. "That's... that's impossible. Our assets are diversified across three continents. The Lichtenstein trusts are fully encrypted—you couldn't possibly—"
"You think you were the only one playing chess across the Atlantic, Helena?" I interrupted, my voice smooth, steady, and utterly devastating.
I walked slowly back to the cocktail bar, poured myself a fresh glass of sparkling water, and turned back to face her.
"While you were busy buying up twelve percent of my shipping partner with borrowed capital from your family's offshore accounts, my forensic accounting team was tracing every single cent of your holding group's liquidity," I explained, taking a slow sip. "Did you really think the British High Court didn't notice that your capital was funneled directly from accounts frozen under federal RICO investigations tied to your brother?"
Helena stumbled back a half-step, her back hitting the edge of the mahogany table. "You... you weaponized the DOJ against our holding group..."
"I didn't have to weaponize anything," I corrected her coldly. "You brought tainted money across international borders and parked it in plain sight. All I did was hand the ledger to the right prosecutor."
Marcus Croft stepped forward, his posture rigid and professional. "Ms. Vance, shall I have security escort our guest out, or should we wait for the federal marshals currently waiting in the lobby to serve her subpoena?"
Hearing those words, Helena’s aristocratic veneer completely shattered. The cool, predatory confidence dissolved into naked panic. She looked at me not with anger, but with absolute terror—the same look her brother Arthur had worn right before the marshals hauled him out of his own boardroom.
"You can't do this," Helena choked out, her voice cracking. "My family... we built half the financial infrastructure in this city! We made people like you!"
"And people like you forgot the golden rule of wealth," I said, my voice dropping an octave, ringing with absolute power. "An empire built on theft, intimidation, and borrowed power always collapses the moment someone refuses to bow."
I stepped closer, looking down into her wide, trembling eyes.
"Tell your lawyers goodbye, Helena. By morning, Sterling Global Holdings will be bankrupt, liquidated, and divided among my corporate subsidiaries as compensation for damages."
Without waiting for another word, I gave a subtle nod to Marcus.
Two security operatives stepped out from the hallway, flanking Helena on either side. They didn't touch her roughly, but their presence was absolute and inescapable.
"Right this way, Ms. Sterling," Marcus said politely, gesturing toward the private elevator lobby.
As Helena was led toward the doors, her head held high in a desperate attempt to salvage what little dignity she had left, she paused and looked back at me one last time.
"You haven't won, Claire," she hissed, her voice trembling with venom. "There are others. People you don't even know exist. They won't stop until you're stripped of every last dime."
May you like
"Let them come," I replied calmly, turning my back on her as the elevator doors slid shut. "My portfolio has plenty of room for new acquisitions."
