Chapter 8 - The Betrayal Unveiled

Ethan’s eyes went wide with a mixture of profound shock, horror, and miraculous hope.
"CLARA!" Ethan screamed, hammering his fists against the heavy door. "CLARA! ARE YOU IN THERE?! CAN YOU HEAR ME?!"
"...Ethan... cold... so cold..." the raspy voice whispered back, frail and hollow, but undeniably hers.
"I'M HERE! I'M GONNA GET YOU OUT! HOLD ON!" Ethan yelled hysterically.
He turned and scrambled backward out of the narrow tunnel, bursting into the night air on the patio like a man possessed. He rose to his feet, covered in dirt, mud, and blood from scraped knees, his face wild with adrenaline.
"SHE'S ALIVE!" Ethan shrieked to the shocked crowd. "CALL 911! CALL AN AMBULANCE! CLARA IS ALIVE UNDER THE PATIO!"
Gasps of disbelief erupted from the guests. Marcus immediately pulled out his phone, frantically dialing emergency services.
Evelyn, realization striking her like a physical blow, backed away in absolute terror. She turned and sprinted toward her sports car parked in the driveway.
"STOP HER!" Ethan screamed.
Marcus and two other male guests chased after Evelyn, tackling her to the grass near the driveway just as she reached her car door. She fought viciously, screaming curses, her polished facade completely shattered into the ugly reality of a desperate criminal.
Ethan ran back to the patio, grabbing the sledgehammer once more. Fueled by a desperate surge of fury, he returned to the breach. Joining him was his neighbor, carrying an iron crowbar. Together, they hurled themselves at the reinforced door frame.
They smashed the heavy padlocks, pried at the rusted iron hinges, and cut through the thick foam seals.
Minutes felt like agonizing hours. The sound of metal groaning against metal echoed through the quiet neighborhood as local police cruisers and ambulances pulled into the driveway with their red and blue lights flashing across the white mansion.
