Chapter 22 - The Digital Noose

Using Cole's dropped tactical tablet, Tessa and I dragged ourselves up the maintenance access stairs, bursting out into the freezing midnight air behind the Marlowe County municipal pier. The wind whipped off the bay, biting through our soaked clothes, but adrenaline kept the shivering at bay. We scrambled into the cab of Tessa’s battered pickup truck, slamming the doors shut just as distant sirens began to wail—not the automated alarms of the bunker, but real police cruisers responding to the emergency dispatch we had managed to trigger. "Where to?" Tessa demanded, her knuckles white on the steering wheel as she turned the ignition. "Not home. They'll be watching every address associated with us," I said, my eyes fixed on the tablet screen where Cole’s secure corporate signal was moving rapidly inland toward the county executive estate. "We go straight to the source. The Marlowe County Courthouse." Tessa raised an eyebrow, glancing at me in the dashboard glow. "At three in the morning? It's locked down tighter than a federal vault." "Not if we use their own administrative backdoor," I replied, tapping the screen to reveal the master bypass code I had extracted from the server room. "Cole spent months rewriting the CAD logs to frame us and cover up his infrastructure embezzlement. By logging in with his credential token here, we don't just clear our names—we issue an automatic federal preservation order on every server in his building." As Tessa threw the truck into gear and burned rubber down the empty coastal highway, I watched the digital noose tighten around Vivian and Cole. Their empire of falsified emergency reports, redirected funds, and engineered tragedies was about to be laid bare before every federal agency on the eastern seaboard.
