Chapter 25 - The Sinking Ship

Two tactical agents swarmed Julian Jr. before his fingers could even graze the handle of his fallen Beretta. They slammed him facedown onto the wet concrete, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists with ruthless efficiency.

"Julian Vance Jr., you're under arrest for international racketeering, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice," the lead agent barked, hauling Julian up by his arms as the syndicate heir thrashed and cursed furiously against the grip.

"You can't do this!" Julian screamed, his voice echoing off the corrugated iron walls as he was dragged toward the breached exit. "I have immunity! You don't know who funds this operation! You're all dead men!"

Elena watched in silence as they hauled him out into the pouring rain, the red and blue flashing lights of a dozen federal cruisers painting the warehouse walls in a dizzying strobe effect. The suffocating weight that had rested on her chest for the past decade finally began to lift, dissolving into the cold water pouring from the overhead sprinklers.

Agent Vance walked over to her, extending a gloved hand to help her steady herself.

"Are you hurt, Elena?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine concern beneath his tactical helmet.

"Just bruised, Agent Vance," Elena replied, taking his hand and pulling herself up. She looked around the ruined warehouse, the charred walls and rushing water washing away the physical remnants of a decade of terror. "Is Marcus safe?"

"He's safe," Agent Vance reassured her with a tight, approving nod. "They tried to intercept him at his cabin, but we had a counter-surveillance team in place. He’s already on his way to a secure medical facility for a checkup, but he’s unharmed."

Elena let out a long, shuddering breath, closing her eyes for a brief second. It was finally over. The hydra had been decapitated for good.

"You need to get back to Hailey," Agent Vance continued, handing her a fresh towel from a supply crate. "The safehouse is secure, but we’re moving you both to a permanent location tonight. Somewhere completely off the grid."

Elena took the towel, drying her face and hands before looking back out toward the rain-slicked parking lot where Julian Jr. was being shoved into the back of an armored transport van.

"No," Elena said firmly, a fierce determination settling into her voice. "We're not running anymore."
