Chapter 11 - RYAN’S FALL FROM GRACE

While I was holding baby Hope in my peaceful new home, Ryan Bennett’s life was spiraling into absolute chaos.
The Department of Justice had officially opened a criminal investigation into Bennett Development Corporation following Marcus Sterling’s forensic report. Federal agents executed a search warrant on Ryan’s office, seizing servers, hard drives, and financial ledgers.
Stripped of his CEO salary and with his personal accounts frozen, Ryan was forced to sell his luxury sports cars at a fraction of their value just to pay his mounting legal fees.
His defense attorney, Richard Vance, sat across from him in a cramped, noisy diner on the outskirts of the city.
"Ryan, the federal prosecutors are offering a plea deal," Richard said gravely, sliding a document across the table.
Ryan looked exhausted. His eyes were sunken, his designer suit wrinkled and unwashed. "A plea deal? For what?!"
"Wire fraud, tax evasion, and corporate embezzlement," Richard listed coldly. "If we go to trial, Marcus Sterling’s evidence will convict you on all counts. You’re looking at fifteen years in federal prison."
"Fifteen years?!" Ryan choked on his coffee. "What is the plea deal?"
"Thirty-six months in a minimum-security federal facility, restitution of $9.4 million to the development firm, and full surrender of your remaining equity."
Ryan grabbed his head in his hands, tears of frustration streaming down his face. "This is Claire's fault... She planned this! She set me up!"
Richard leaned in, his voice dropping into a harsh whisper. "Stop blaming your wife, Ryan! You signed the transfer documents. You set up the offshore accounts. You brought your mistress home. Your wife didn't commit crimes, Ryan—you did. She was just smart enough to document them."

Ryan looked out the window at the grey rainy street. Nine months ago, he was a multi-millionaire CEO with a beautiful wife, custom suits, and complete control over his world.
Now, he was facing prison, bankruptcy, and total public disgrace.
