Chapter 7 - A NEW BEGINNING

The private labor suite at Mount Sinai Hospital featured soft ambient lighting, a view of the quiet East River, and state-of-the-art medical technology.
Outside in the hall, Declan walked back and forth like a nervous father, his suit jacket discarded, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The mighty billionaire who had terrified Wall Street executives was now fidgeting with his watch, his heart pounding harder than it ever had during a multi-billion-dollar corporate takeover.
The door opened, and a smiling senior obstetrician stepped out. “Mr. Pierce?”
Declan rushed forward. “How is she? Is the baby okay?”
“Mrs. Calloway was incredible,” the doctor smiled warmly. “It was a smooth, healthy delivery. You can come in now.”
Declan let out a long, heavy breath of relief. He pushed open the double doors and stepped inside.
The room was peaceful and quiet. Grace lay in the hospital bed, propped up on plush pillows. She looked exhausted, her hair slightly damp, but her face was illuminated by pure, radiant joy.
In her arms, swaddled in a soft blue-and-white hospital blanket, was a tiny baby boy with a tuft of fine dark hair and bright, curious eyes.
Declan walked in slowly, stepping quietly as if afraid to shatter the quiet moment.
Grace looked up and smiled, her eyes shining with soft tears. “Come here, Declan.”
Declan walked over to the side of the bed. He looked down at the tiny bundle in Grace’s arms, his breath catching in his throat. A strange, powerful emotion swept over him—a fierce, protective instinct that surged deep within his chest.
“He’s... he’s perfect, Grace,” Declan whispered gently.
“Do you want to hold him?” Grace asked softly.
Declan hesitated, holding up his large hands. “I... I don't know, Grace. I’m used to managing companies, not fragile human beings. What if I hold him wrong?”
Grace let out a soft laugh. “You won't break him, Declan. Come here.”
Declan carefully reached down. Grace gently transferred the newborn into his arms.
Declan adjusted his grip, supporting the baby’s head against his broad chest. The tiny boy let out a soft sigh, squirming slightly before resting his tiny forehead against Declan’s warm thumb.
Declan stared down at the baby boy, feeling a tear slip down his cheek. In that single moment, all his wealth, his corporate power, and his billions meant absolutely nothing compared to the tiny life resting in his arms.
“What’s his name?” Declan asked softly, keeping his eyes glued to the baby’s face.
“Leo,” Grace murmured gently. “Leo Pierce Calloway.”
Declan’s head snapped up in surprise. His grey eyes searched Grace’s face. “Pierce?”
Grace smiled, reaching out to stroke Declan’s cheek gently. “Ethan threw away his right to be this boy’s father the moment he abandoned us. You were the one who protected us, Declan. You were the one who stood by me when everything fell apart. I want my son to carry the name of the man who truly cared for him.”

Declan swallowed hard, his throat tight with emotion. He leaned down, placing a tender, soft kiss on Grace’s forehead, then rested his forehead gently against hers.
“I promise you, Grace,” Declan whispered with fierce devotion. “I will protect both of you with everything I have for the rest of my life.”
