Chapter 10 - Turning the Page

Six months after the wedding disaster, spring returned to Ohio with vibrant green shoots pushing up through the damp earth.
Daniel and I hosted a small, intimate anniversary dinner at our newly renovated home—a charming historic brick house near German Village that we had purchased using a portion of the estate trust.
There were no viral cameras, no fake society friends, and no toxic relatives. Just Chloe, our closest friends from college, Uncle Arthur, and a handful of people who genuinely loved and supported us from day one.
I wore a simple, elegant silk dress—no lace, no heavy tulle, just clean lines and timeless grace.
As I stood on our back patio, holding a glass of sparkling cider while watching the sunset paint the sky in shades of amber and gold, Daniel walked up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his chin on my shoulder.
"Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Brooks?" he whispered softly.
I leaned back into his embrace, smiling as I looked out over our garden.
"I was just thinking about that morning in my childhood bedroom," I murmured honestly. "When I saw the holes in my dress, I thought my life was over."
Daniel turned me around so I was facing him, his dark eyes filled with fierce, unwavering devotion. "And now?"

I reached up, placing my hand gently against his cheek, feeling the steady warmth of his skin.
"Now," I smiled, "I realize it was just the beginning."
