Chapter 6 - The Subversive Alliance

With legal threats looming and the media sniffing around for a scandal, Luca knew he needed more than muscle to protect his family. He needed proof—concrete evidence of Vanessa's calculated campaign to emotionally abuse and silence Isabella over the past several months.
That evening, Luca called a private meeting in his study with Claire and Mrs. Carter, the senior housekeeper who had served the Moretti family for over thirty years.
"They're claiming the household environment is unstable and that Vanessa was merely trying to 'help' Isabella assimilate," Luca said, pacing across the Persian rug. "We need documentation. Emails, text messages, staff logs—anything that proves what she was really doing behind closed doors."
Mrs. Carter adjusted her glasses, her expression grim. "Mr. Moretti, Miss Bellini was very careful. She always spoke to Isabella when you weren't around, and she instructed the event planners and photographers verbally so there wouldn't be a paper trail."
Claire stepped forward, her eyes bright with sudden realization. "Wait. What about the digital security archives?"
Luca stopped pacing. "What do you mean?"
"The mansion's interior smart-home system," Claire explained eagerly. "Every hallway, the sunroom, the library, and the dining room are equipped with high-definition audio-visual sensors for security monitoring. The data is stored on an encrypted local server in the basement vault."
Mrs. Carter gasped softly. "Good heavens. The microphones pick up everything—even whispering if the room is quiet."
Luca didn't hesitate. Within minutes, the three of them were down in the subterranean server room. As Luca’s security credentials unlocked the main archives, files spanning months of footage began populating the screen.
They sat in the dim, glowing light of the monitors, scrubbing through days of engagement preparations. It didn't take long to find what they were looking for.
File after file revealed Vanessa’s true colors. There was audio of her snapping at Isabella in the library, telling her that her father was "tired of having a deaf daughter." There was video footage from the night before the engagement party, capturing Vanessa forcefully pulling Isabella's hands down into her lap, sneering that signing made her look "defective." And finally, there was the devastating recording from the gala itself, capturing every cruel instruction given right before the toast.
Luca sat motionless in front of the screen, his face draining of all color. Hearing the cold, venomous tone Vanessa used against his helpless child felt like physical blows. The guilt that gnawed at his stomach was agonizing. He had brought this monster into their home, trusting her with the most precious thing in his life.

"We have everything we need," Claire whispered softly, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
Luca closed his eyes, taking a long, steadying breath. "She wanted a public spectacle," he muttered, his voice cold as ice. "She’s going to get one."
