Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

Six months later, the sun was setting over Lake Michigan, casting a brilliant golden glow across the manicured lawns of the Rossi estate.
It was our wedding day.
The ceremony was intimate, attended only by our dearest friends, loyal allies like Evelyn Vance, and trusted members of our extended family. There were no cameras from tabloid gossip columns, no hostile corporate enemies, and no shadow of fear.
As I walked down the grand stone aisle in a breathtaking ivory lace gown, holding a bouquet of white roses and my father’s silver compass securely pinned inside the lining of my dress, I saw Vincent waiting for me at the altar.
He wore a tailored black tuxedo, but it was the expression in his dark, intense eyes that took my breath away—an expression of pure, unadulterated adoration.
Standing in the front row, held safely in Mrs. Gable’s loving arms, was our six-month-old son, gurgling happily and waving a tiny rattle in the air.
When I reached the altar, Vincent took my hands in his, his fingers warm, steady, and anchoring.
“You look like an absolute dream, Tessa,” Vincent whispered, his voice trembling with emotion.
“And you clean up pretty well yourself, Boss,” I teased softly, a bright smile spreading across my face.
The minister smiled warmly, beginning the ceremony that bound our lives together forever. When the time came for our vows, Vincent looked deep into my eyes, speaking words that echoed across the lake and straight into my soul.
“Tessa, from the moment I watched you carry your grief like armor, I knew your strength was unmatched. You taught me that true power isn't about control or fear—it’s about loyalty, resilience, and unconditional love. I promise to stand by your side through every storm, to protect our family with every breath in my body, and to love you more with every passing day.”
“Vincent,” I replied, my voice steady and clear, “you pulled me from the darkest moments of my life, not with force, but with honor and an unwavering heart. You gave me back my family’s legacy, and you gave me a future I never dared to dream of. I promise to stand with you, to fight with you, and to love you for the rest of my days.”
“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the minister announced with a warm smile. “Vincent, you may kiss your bride.”
Vincent didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me slightly as he pressed a deep, passionate, unforgettable kiss to my lips.
Applause erupted from our guests, echoing across the lawn and mingling with the gentle crashing of the lake waves against the shore.
Later that evening, as the stars twinkled brightly overhead and music drifted softly from the grand ballroom, Vincent led me out onto the stone terrace where he had proposed months before. He held our sleeping baby boy in one arm while wrapping his other arm securely around my waist.
I rested my head against his shoulder, looking out across the vast, peaceful expanse of Lake Michigan.
The supermarket, the humiliation, the empty bank account, and the bitter betrayal of my past felt like a distant, faded memory. I had survived the worst life could throw at me, and in the process, I had found an empire of love, honor, and family that could never be broken.
“What are you thinking about, Mrs. Rossi?” Vincent asked softly, pressing a kiss to the top of my head.
I smiled, holding his hand tightly and feeling the steady, warm weight of our shared future.

“I was just thinking,” I whispered, “that seventeen dollars was the best investment I ever made.”
Vincent laughed, a rich, genuine sound that melted into the night breeze, and pulled us both closer as our happily ever after truly began.
