Chapter 10 - The Heir of the House

Ten years later.

The December air was crisp, carrying the familiar scent of woodsmoke, roasted chestnuts, and salt from the Atlantic.

The grand dining room of the Westport estate was bathed in the warm, golden glow of hundred-candle chandeliers. The mahogany table was laden with food, surrounded by laughter, clinking glasses, and the joyful chatter of a family finally healed from the inside out.

At the head of the table sat an eighteen-year-old young woman in a tailored emerald green dress, her dark hair falling in soft waves around her shoulders.

Arthur—now frail, his hair completely white, leaning slightly on a wooden cane—smiled warmly as he raised his crystal glass of sparkling cider.

“To my granddaughter,” Arthur said, his voice steady and proud, looking directly down the table. “The true owner of this house, and the heart of this family.”

Emily raised her glass in return, her dark eyes shining with the same fierce, compassionate light her mother had possessed. Beside her sat Daniel, his arm around her shoulders, whispering something that made her laugh—a bright, ringing sound that filled every corner of the grand old house.

No one looked down at their plates anymore. No one whispered behind closed doors. And no one ever doubted who belonged in this room.

The crown had passed, not by right of blood, but by right of love—and the house on the cliff stood stronger than ever, anchored by the girl who had saved it.
