Chapter 11 - Natalie’s Desperate Gamble

Back in Columbus, Natalie Parker was not sitting quietly while her husband drove north.
Convinced that Jason was too weak to handle Evelyn, Natalie decided to take matters into her own hands. She pulled her luxury SUV out of the driveway and drove directly to the National Bank of Columbus downtown, requesting an immediate audience with Arthur Vance, Evelyn's longtime bank manager.
Arthur sat behind his polished mahogany desk, looking at Natalie with polite, icy professional detachment.
"Mrs. Parker," Arthur said smoothly. "How can I assist you today?"
"You know very well why I'm here," Natalie demanded, leaning across the desk. "My mother-in-law, Evelyn Parker, unlawfully transferred nearly two hundred and ninety thousand dollars out of her accounts three weeks ago. That money belongs to her family—to my husband. I am here to formally contest that transfer and request a freeze on those funds due to elderly financial exploitation and diminished mental capacity."
Arthur Vance didn't blink. He calmly adjusted his glasses and folded his hands on his desk.
"Mrs. Parker," Arthur replied, his voice firm and unyielding. "I have known Evelyn and Robert Parker for over twenty years. When Mrs. Parker executed that transfer, she was accompanied by legal counsel, perfectly lucid, and acting entirely within her rights as sole owner of those accounts. Furthermore, those accounts were unencumbered by any joint liability with your husband."
Natalie’s face flushed with furious crimson. "She is an old woman manipulated by outside parties! If you don't freeze those accounts right now, I will sue this bank for negligence!"

Arthur stood up, signaling the end of the meeting. "You are welcome to consult legal counsel, Mrs. Parker. But I assure you, our legal team has already verified the transaction. Good day."
Defeated and seething with blind rage, Natalie stormed out of the bank, realizing she had hit a brick wall of absolute finality.
