Chapter 20 - The Blueprint of Tomorrow
Before Marcus could utter another desperate plea, the heavy elevator doors behind him chimed again, parting to reveal three federal marshals in dark tactical gear.
"Marcus Keller?" the lead marshal barked, stepping forward with a pair of cold steel handcuffs glinting under the penthouse lights. "You are under arrest for industrial espionage, wire fraud, and conspiracy against federal patent registries. Turn around and place your hands behind your back."
Marcus didn't fight back. All the fight had finally drained out of him. He let out a long, shuddering sob as the cold steel clicked around his wrists, his head hanging low as the marshals led him backward into the elevator car. The doors slid shut with a soft, final thud, sealing away the last pathetic ghost of Nora's past.
Silence settled over the penthouse suite, heavy and profound.
Julian stepped up beside Nora, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and pulling her close against his side. He looked down at her with a mixture of fierce admiration and boundless love. "Are you alright?" he asked softly.
Nora took a deep, steady breath, letting the cool autumn air fill her lungs as she looked out through the massive glass windows toward the glittering expanse of the New York skyline. The city stretched out before them like an infinite, unwritten canvas, waiting for true architecture to shape its destiny.
"I've never been more alright," Nora whispered, a genuine, radiant smile breaking across her face.
She turned in Julian's arms, sliding her hands up to rest comfortably around his neck, her eyes sparkling with the absolute certainty of a woman who had finally built a life that nothing could ever tear down.
