Chapter 24 - The Global Broadcast

The broadcast studio of Bloomberg West was sleek, cold, and lit by harsh studio lights that hummed quietly in the ceiling. Nora Vance sat straight-backed in a leather armchair opposite one of the network's most aggressive financial anchors, Marcus Thorne. Beside her sat Julian, his presence a steady, unshakable wall of support. Behind them, a massive digital screen displayed the unredacted architectural schematics of the Southbank Cultural Centre, alongside the leaked financial records Leo had uncovered linking Meridian Capital to David Sterling.
"Mrs. Vance, let’s cut straight to the point," anchor Marcus Thorne said, leaning forward, his eyes fixed sharply on Nora. "Financial markets are in a frenzy this morning following your unannounced press release. You are publicly accusing Richard Vance—one of the most powerful real estate magnates in the country—of engineering an industrial sabotage campaign against your firm. Do you have tangible proof, or is this a bitter family feud spilling over into the public eye?"
Nora didn't blink. She looked directly into the camera lens, knowing that millions of investors, regulators, and architects across the globe were watching her every move.
"This isn't a family feud, Mr. Thorne," Nora’s voice rang out, clear, melodic, and ice-cold. "This is about corporate integrity. For years, the architectural industry has been plagued by old boys' clubs who believe they can manipulate safety margins, alter structural load calculations, and blackmail rising firms into submission. Richard Vance thought he could use a fugitive engineer named David Sterling to hide compromised structural data in our international projects."
She reached down, tapping a button on the small tablet resting on her lap. Instantly, the screen behind her shifted, displaying bank wire receipts bearing Richard Vance’s signature, transferring millions of dollars into Sterling’s offshore Swiss account.
"These documents, which we have already handed over to the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission, prove that Richard Vance financed David Sterling’s escape in exchange for altered engineering reports designed to sabotage the Southbank Cultural Centre," Nora continued, her tone unwavering. "Furthermore, let me make one thing crystal clear to the London municipal board and all our global partners: the moment our firm discovered these anomalies three weeks ago, we completely rewrote the structural framework. The Southbank project is not only safe; it is built to withstand twice the maximum projected seismic load."
In the control room off-stage, producers were frantically shouting instructions into headsets as stock tickers flashed red across financial networks worldwide. Meridian Capital’s stock was plummeting in real-time, down thirty-five percent within the first ten minutes of the broadcast.
Anchor Thorne swallowed hard, clearly stunned by the sheer magnitude of the evidence presented. "And what about the blackmail note you received this morning?"
May you like
"That note was a desperate, last-ditch effort by a drowning man," Nora said, her lips curving into a subtle, fearless smile. "When you build on truth, Mr. Thorne, no amount of wind can blow your house down. My husband and I didn't come here to defend ourselves. We came here to deliver an eviction notice to corrupt legacy builders who think they own the horizon."
