Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Spring arrived in Newport with an explosion of cherry blossoms and warm Atlantic breezes.

Inside the light-filled nursery of her new Victorian home overlooking Narragansett Bay, Marin stood cradling a tiny, perfect bundle of life against her chest. Little Chloe Hargrove—healthy, strong, and breathing with a steady, peaceful rhythm—was sleeping soundly, her tiny fingers curled into loose, soft fists.

The doorbell chimed softly downstairs. A moment later, Jude Barrett’s voice echoed up the stairwell. "Special delivery for the CEO and her co-founder!"

Marin walked down the stairs, smiling. On the entryway table sat a massive bouquet of white lilies and a formal leather-bound document box. It was the official charter from the Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, officially recognizing Apex Horizon Hospitality as one of the top ten restructured hospitality firms in the Northeast, under the sole ownership and executive direction of Marin Hargrove.

She looked out the bay window toward the sparkling waters of the bay. The pool where she had nearly drowned was a distant memory—a dark chapter in a book she had successfully rewritten.

She had lost a husband, a fake estate, and a toxic illusion. But she had gained her company, her dignity, her safety, and above all, her precious daughter.

"We made it, sweet girl," Marin whispered, pressing a soft kiss to Chloe's silky crown of hair as the sun broke through the clouds, bathing the entire room in warm, golden light.
