Chapter 16 - The Blueprint of a Trap

By 2:00 AM, the study of the Vale Estate looked less like a home office and more like a military command center. The mahogany desk was covered in corporate ledgers, bank routing numbers, and shell company registries illuminated by the harsh glare of dual computer monitors.

Nico stood by the window, staring out at the snow-covered gardens, a glass of dark scotch untouched in his hand. Miller sat at the desk, his fingers flying across the keyboard with practiced speed.

"It’s confirmed, Mr. Vale," Miller said, his eyes glued to the screen. "Julian has been quietly buying up distressed commercial real estate debt around Boston, trying to corner the supply chain routes that service Winter & Rye. He’s leveraged everything—including his uncle Marcus’s private holdings—to pull off a hostile buyout of our primary flour and dairy distributors."

Nico took a slow sip of his scotch, the amber liquid burning his throat. "He thinks he’s choking off my supply lines."

"Worse than that, sir," Miller continued. "He’s planning to drop a forged compliance audit on Winter & Rye tomorrow afternoon, claiming health code violations, just as the health department’s quarterly inspection window opens. He wants to shut the bakery down publicly and humiliate Mrs. Vale."

A slow, terrifying smile spread across Nico’s face. It was the smile of a man who had anticipated every single move of his opponent weeks before the game even began.

"He’s walking right into the valley of death," Nico murmured softly. "Miller, did you file the amended SEC disclosures regarding the acquisition of Vance Holdings' debt portfolio?"

"An hour ago, sir," Miller replied, a grin cracking his weathered face. "You bought up seventy percent of Julian’s leveraged debt three weeks ago through an anonymous holding company. The moment he triggers his little sabotage play tomorrow, his loans become immediately callable due to breach of fiduciary trust."

Nico turned away from the window, his dark eyes shining with cold, triumphant brilliance. "Then let the trap spring. Let’s see how brave Julian is when he realizes he doesn't own a single brick of his own empire."
