Chapter 28 - The Counter-Strike

Back in Boston, the war room on the top floor of the Beacon Hill townhouse transformed into a command center. Gone were the quiet, romantic evenings by the fireplace; the room was now bathed in the harsh blue light of multiple dual monitors, streaming real-time financial data, SEC filings, and offshore asset trackers.

Nico stood before a massive digital whiteboard, a black dry-erase marker in his hand as he mapped out Arthur Sterling’s intricate corporate web. Clara sat at the central terminal, her fingers flying across the mechanical keyboard with blinding speed, decrypting the encrypted files Eleanor had provided from the Newport ledger.

"Sterling’s municipal buyout relies entirely on the approval of the Boston City Council tomorrow morning," Clara announced, her voice steady and focused, channeling every ounce of her professional expertise. "If we release the offshore routing numbers and the original ledger to the federal prosecutor’s office tonight, the injunction will freeze his accounts before the vote."

"An injunction isn't enough," Nico replied, his voice hard as iron, pacing the length of the room. "Sterling needs to be utterly dismantled. Every asset seized, every corporate board seat stripped, every investor backing him terrified into pulling out."

"Nico, if we strike that hard, we risk triggering a localized market panic," Clara warned, turning around in her chair to look at him, her expression a mix of awe and concern. "The fallout will touch hundreds of innocent investors."

"Collateral damage is managed, Clara," Nico said flatly, stopping behind her chair and placing his hands on her shoulders. "Sterling destroyed my family. He tried to destroy you through Julian’s proxies. Men like him don't deserve a soft landing."

Clara looked up into his dark, unyielding eyes, seeing the deep, agonizing wounds of a child who had waited twenty years for justice. She reached up, placing her hand over his. "Then let's take him down. Together."

A knock echoed at the study door. One of the senior security guards stepped inside, holding a secure encrypted tablet. "Sir, we have confirmation. Arthur Sterling’s private jet has just landed at Logan Airport. He’s heading directly to a private gala at the Museum of Fine Arts tonight."

Nico straightened up, a slow, predatory smile spreading across his face. "Perfect. I believe it's time for an unexpected guest to crash Boston’s high-society party."
