Chapter 10 - The Vanity Project

Deprived of the luxury estate, Ryan and Linda were forced to check into an inexpensive extended-stay motel near the highway.

Linda, however, was utterly incapable of living quietly.

Addicted to the perception of luxury, she took to her public Facebook and Instagram accounts to launch a smear campaign against me, attempting to save face among her social elite friends.

Sitting in her cramped motel room—surrounded by half-packed suitcases and takeout boxes—she set up her phone on a tripod, put on a thick layer of makeup, and started a live broadcast entitled: "The Truth About My Jealous Daughter-in-Law."

"Hello, my lovely friends," Linda began in her sweet, dramatic southern drawl, looking into the camera lens. "I am broadcasting today to clear up the awful rumors circulating online. Sarah is an unstable woman who has suffered a tragic breakdown. She has locked my poor son out of his own home over a simple interior design update!"

Over 800 people tuned into the livestream, including dozens of local suburban mothers and country club members.

"I merely tried to elevate the home's aesthetic!" Linda continued, placing a hand over her heart. "I spent thousands of my own money creating a beautiful, sophisticated dressing suite. And Sarah reacted with pure malice—dragging my sweet grandson into the cold street just to spite us!"

She gestured dramatically toward a rack of designer coats shoved into the motel corner. "Ryan and I are staying in temporary lodging while our legal team prepares a massive lawsuit to reclaim our family rights—"

Suddenly, the motel room door shook with three loud, heavy thuds.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

"County Process Server! Open the door!" a loud voice boomed from outside.

Linda froze on camera. Her eyes went wide with terror as the screen comments began scrolling at lightning speed:

"Wait, is someone serving her live?!"

"Is that the police?!"

"Hahahahaha she’s in a cheap motel!"
