Chapter 14 - The Freeze

On Monday morning at 9:00 AM, Arthur Vance delivered the knockout financial blow.

Using the forensic evidence of Ryan’s unauthorized $210,000 wire transfers, Arthur secured an emergency ex-parte court order from Judge Harrison freezing all joint bank accounts, line of credits, and secondary corporate credit cards linked to Ryan Miller.

Ryan was sitting in an upscale diner with his attorney, Richard Sterling, discussing their courtroom strategy, when his card was declined for a $40 breakfast bill.

He pulled out his secondary credit card—declined. He tried his business debit card—declined. He opened his mobile banking app, only to see a bright red alert banner across the screen:

ACCOUNT STATUS: FROZEN BY COURT ORDER (CASE #8821) AVAILABLE BALANCE: $0.00

Panic seized Ryan’s chest. He pulled out his phone and frantically dialed Arthur Vance’s office.

"Arthur! What did you do to my bank accounts?!" Ryan screamed the moment the assistant connected the call. "I can't even pay for my breakfast! I can't pay my lawyer!"

Arthur’s calm, razor-sharp voice came down the line. "Mr. Miller, those accounts were funded almost entirely by Sarah’s corporate dividends and trust income. Since you chose to secretly embezzle over $200,000 of those funds to pay off your mother’s gambling debts, the court has placed a full clawback freeze on all assets until the trial."

"You can't leave me with zero dollars!" Ryan shrieked, his voice cracking in sheer terror.

"You left your eight-year-old son with zero bedrooms, Mr. Miller," Arthur replied coldly. "I suggest you ask your mother to use her dressing room gown collection to pay for your breakfast. Good day."
