Chapter 17 - The Lockout

The settlement terms were non-negotiable.

Faced with criminal fraud charges, potential jail time for grand larceny, and guaranteed loss in court, Ryan and Linda surrendered completely.

On Friday morning, the final court order was signed by Judge Harrison:

Absolute Divorce granted to Sarah Vance on grounds of cruelty and financial fraud.

Full Legal and Physical Custody of Ethan awarded exclusively to Sarah. Ryan granted restricted, supervised visitation twice a month at a court-certified center.

Full Restitution: Ryan ordered to repay $210,000 to Sarah's trust fund through automatic wage garnishment over the next ten years.

Permanent Eviction and Restraining Order: Linda Miller barred from stepping foot within 1,000 feet of Sarah, Ethan, or the Oakridge estate forever.

I stood on the front lawn of 442 Oakridge Drive as a moving truck arrived—not to take my things away, but to deliver brand-new furniture.

Two locksmiths finished installing a state-of-the-art digital security system with smart cameras at every entrance.

Ryan watched from a rental car parked down the street—forbidden from stepping onto the curb—as workers removed the expensive cream wallpaper Linda had installed in the upper bedroom, stripping it down to the fresh drywall, ready for a new coat of bright paint.

He had tried to take everything. Now, he was left standing on the outside, watching the life he destroyed continue without him.
