Chapter 28 - The Vernissage at Galerie Moreau

The night of the grand vernissage at *Galerie Moreau* in Paris was an event that would be remembered in European cultural history for decades.

The cobblestone street outside the prestigious gallery on the Place Vendôme was lined with sleek black town cars, paparazzi flashing cameras, and elegant crowds of socialites, diplomats, and international art connoisseurs dressed in stunning haute couture gowns and tailored tuxedos. Inside, classical string music floated softly through the high, vaulted rooms, mingling with the soft murmur of awestruck conversations and the clinking of crystal champagne flutes.

At the center of the grand exhibition hall, draped beneath a heavy crimson velvet curtain, stood *The Sovereign Phoenix*.

Claire stood near the center of the gallery, wearing a breathtaking floor-length midnight-blue silk velvet gown designed by a top Parisian atelier, her hair styled in soft, cascading waves, and her eyes sparkling with the radiant confidence of a woman who owned her entire universe. By her side, Maya beamed proudly, wearing an emerald-green cocktail dress that matched the brilliance of the evening.

Hélène Laurent approached them, holding a flute of vintage Dom Pérignon, her face glowing with triumph.

"My dear," Hélène said, touching Claire’s arm affectionately. "The Minister of Culture is outside, and half the American embassy has arrived just to catch a glimpse of you. The reviews coming in from London and New York are nothing short of ecstatic. You have conquered the art world, Claire."

"I didn't conquer it, Hélène," Claire smiled softly, raising her glass in a gentle toast. "I simply invited it to see the truth."

At that moment, the murmurs in the main gallery subsided as Monsieur Jean-Luc Moreau stepped up onto a raised mahogany dais beside the covered masterpiece. He tapped a small silver spoon gently against his champagne glass, calling for silence.

"Mesdames et messieurs," Jean-Luc announced in his rich, commanding baritone. "Tonight, we are not merely celebrating an exhibition. We are witnessing the birth of a sovereign artistic voice. Too often, art is born from comfort. But the greatest masterpieces—the ones that pierce the soul and echo through history—are forged when a woman is forced through the fire, and decides to build an empire out of the ashes."

A wave of applause surged through the room.

Jean-Luc turned toward the crimson velvet drape. "Without further ado, I present to you... *The Sovereign Phoenix*."

With a swift, dramatic pull, Jean-Luc drew back the curtain.

Gasps of absolute awe echoed through the gallery. Under the warm, focused spotlights, the massive canvas blazed with breathtaking power. The golden light caught the textured layers of paint so brilliantly that the rising phoenix seemed almost to leap off the canvas, its wings outstretched against the dawn, carrying an aura of fierce, unyielding freedom that left the entire room spellbound.

For three long seconds, complete silence held the room captive. Then, a thunderous, roaring wave of applause erupted. Flashbulbs strobed like lightning; champagne glasses were raised high; and critics rushed forward to record the historic moment.

Claire stood quietly in the center of the storm, feeling the warm, beautiful energy of the room wash over her. She looked up at her painting, then out at the glittering crowd of people who honored her genius, and for the first time in her life, she felt a profound, unshakeable completeness.
