Chapter 37 - The Aftermath and the Offer

By late afternoon, the shockwaves of the courtroom collapse had completely reshaped the New York corporate landscape. Vanguard Capital had formally collapsed, freezing all assets and scrambling to delete their digital footprints as federal agents descended upon their Midtown offices. Arthur Sterling had gone into hiding, dodging process servers, federal investigators, and enraged former creditors who were circling like sharks smelling blood in the water.

Claire and Maya sat in the plush penthouse suite of the Mandarin Oriental, watching the sun dip below the jagged Manhattan skyline, casting a golden glow over the Hudson River.

Maya popped the cork on a bottle of vintage Dom Pérignon, the celebratory pop echoing softly through the suite. She poured two crystal flutes, handing one to Claire with a triumphant grin.

"To total, absolute, unadulterated victory," Maya toasted, clinking her glass against Claire’s. "I haven't seen a corporate execution that clean since Wall Street in the eighties. You actually broke the machine, Claire."

Claire took a sip of the crisp champagne, a serene smile touching her lips. "I didn't break anything, Maya. The machine was already rotting from the inside. Hélène and I just removed the final support beam."

Speaking of Hélène, the encrypted phone on the coffee table buzzed softly. A single text message lit up the screen: *Meet me at the Plaza tea room. Tomorrow at 2:00 PM. We have a final matter to discuss.*

Claire looked down at the message, a thoughtful expression replacing her celebratory mood. "She’s not done yet."

"Of course she isn't," Maya sighed, setting her champagne flute down. "She’s a Sterling. They don't know how to relax. But be careful, Claire. You’ve won the war. Don't let her pull you back into their family drama."

"I won't," Claire promised. "Curiosity just demands I hear what she has to say."
