Chapter 29 - A New Dawn

The sun rose over Boston Harbor the next morning, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of amber, rose, and gold. The snow sparkled across the city like crushed diamonds, untouched and pristine.

Inside the penthouse, the smell of freshly brewed coffee and toasted brioche drifted from the kitchen. Sophie sat at the dining table, giggling happily as she colored in a new holiday picture book, her little legs swinging back and forth in excitement.

"Mommy, can we go outside today? The snow looks like magic!" Sophie asked, looking up with big, sparkling eyes.

"We can go build the biggest snowman in the park, sweetheart," Elena answered, walking out of the kitchen carrying a tray of breakfast pastries. She looked rested, her face glowing with a soft, natural happiness that had been locked away for years.

Across the room, standing by the open doorway, Dante leaned against the frame with his arms crossed, watching them with a quiet, reverent awe. He had spent his entire life building walls, spilling blood, and collecting enemies, believing that love and family were luxuries reserved for ordinary people. Yet here they were—his family. Safe, warm, and alive.

Elena caught his eye across the room. She smiled, a radiant, knowing smile, and set the tray down on the table before walking slowly toward him.

Dante pushed away from the doorframe, meeting her halfway. Without a word, he reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the small, velvet-covered box he had dropped the day before when the phone had rung.

Elena’s breath hitched. She stopped just inches from him, her heart swelling with an overwhelming tide of emotion.

Dante dropped gracefully to one knee right there on the hardwood floor of the sunlit living room. He flipped open the lid of the box, revealing the simple, elegant platinum band inlaid with a single, flawless diamond that caught the morning light.

"I didn't get to finish what I started yesterday," Dante said, his voice deep, steady, and filled with a profound, unshakeable devotion that echoed off the quiet walls. "No shadows. No phone calls. No ghosts from the past. Just you, me, and Sophie. Will you marry me, Elena? For real this time?"

Tears streamed down Elena’s cheeks, but her smile was the brightest thing in the room. She didn't hesitate for a single second.

"Yes, Dante," she whispered, her voice choking with joyful laughter. "Yes, a million times yes."
